Spurs head to Watford this weekend to face another side with a 100 per cent record

Harry Kane believes Tottenham Hotspur will not get carried away with their impressive start to the new Premier League campaign.

Spurs secured a statement victory on Monday away to Manchester United after triumphing 3-0 to see them maintain their 100 per cent record after three games.

Mauricio Pochettino’s team sit in second place, behind Liverpool due to goal difference, ahead of visiting Watford on Sunday, who also have nine points to date.

Asked if Monday’s victory was a statement of intent, Kane told Press Association Sport: “Yes I think so, 100 per cent.

“We’ve maybe fallen behind at the start of the season the last few years, so we have to stay up there from the very start.

“The only way to do that is to come to places like Old Trafford and win, and all the other big games as well.

“It’s been a great start for us, but we’re not getting too carried away because, of course, it’s only three games in, but this is what we needed.

“We needed to start the season well and now it’s all about maintaining this for the rest of the campaign.”

Tottenham can expect a tough test at Vicarage Road against an improving Javi Gracia side, who have defeated Brighton & Hove Albion, Burnley and Crystal Palace already this term.

Last season, Spurs struggled at the Hornets and could only come away with a 1-1 draw after centre back Davinson Sanchez saw red.

This time around it seems the Lilywhites have more strength in depth, which seems bizarre after they didn’t sign a single player in the summer transfer window.

But Kane added: “The gaffer said he’s not just going to bring in players for the sake of it.

“What that does is it gives the rest of the squad huge belief because it shows he has belief in us, so now we have to repay him and repay the club.

“Lucas (Moura) is one of them that some fans maybe might have thought ‘is he going to stay, is he going to go?’

“He’s stayed, he’s worked hard, he’s done well and he’s deserved his place in the team and that’s what it’s about. He wants to keep his place and we all do. The competition for places is high and we’ve just to keep it going.”

Spurs captain Hugo Lloris will be expected to lead out the team at Watford despite recently being charged with drink-driving. He apologised for the “mistake”.
