Harry Potter actor to star in first show at Arcola Theatre’s new Dalston home
Toby Jones, the voice of Dobby the house Elf, will play celebrated British artist Joseph Mallord William Turner in The Painter
The Olivier Award-winning actor who plays Dobby in the Harry Potter films will be starring in the first performance at Arcola Theatre’s new home.
Toby Jones will play celebrated British artist Joseph Mallord William Turner in the world premiere of The Painter by Rebecca Lenkiewicz, written to open the new theatre in Ashwin Street in January.
Jones, who can currently be heard as the voice of Harry’s House Elf in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 and will also appear in the forthcoming Captain America film, will be joined by Irish actress Niamh Cusack in the role of Sarah Danby. She was Turner’s mistress and mother to his two daughters, but their relationship was kept a secret until after his death.
The production, directed by Arcola founder Mehmet Ergen, will be the first to be performed in Dalston’s old Colourworks factory - where colour blocks used by Turner and Constable were made - when the theatre relocates to Ashwin Street after ten years in Arcola Street.
