The 22-year-old insists Spurs believe they can still make the knock-out phase of the Champions League

Inter Milan visit Wembley Stadium on Wednesday and Spurs know only a home win will realistically keep alive their hopes of reaching the knock-out phase of the Champions League, but Harry Winks is relishing the pressure game.

After four matches in Group B, Tottenham Hotspur are in third place with four points while Nerazzurri are second and in the driving seat to get through to the round of 16.

Luciano Spalletti’s Serie A side have seven points and so are big favourites to qualify behind Barcelona from the group, but the Lilywhites still believe they can progress.

It would take something of a miracle with Spurs needing to defeat Inter and win at the Camp Nou, given PSV visit the San Siro on the same final matchday (December 11), but Winks has far from given up hope.

He said: “It is going to be tough. Inter Milan are a good side, so we have to beat them at Wembley first.

“Then we go to Barcelona, which will be an even bigger task, so two difficult games, but we believe we can do it.”

Even though Winks is only 22, he has a great amount of experience already in the Champions League.

During the 2016/17 term, he made four appearances in Europe’s elite competition – including two starts.

Last season he started five games and memorably got the better of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos at Wembley as Spurs triumphed 3-1 over the holders Real Madrid.

After recovering from his troublesome ankle problems, Winks has featured in all four of Tottenham’s fixtures this campaign and started home games with Barca and PSV.

The England international was excellent in the 2-1 win over the Eredivisie club on November 6 and will hope to inspire Mauricio Pochettino’s men to another victory when Inter travel to the capital.

After being on the bench for Saturday’s thrilling 3-1 success over Chelsea, Winks can expect a spot in the starting XI on Wednesday.

He added: “It is every young players dream to play in the Champions League and play in big games and I want to be a part of a team which can come back from a difficult spell in the Champions League and still make it through to the next round.

“Everyone believes we can do it. Of course it is going to be difficult, we know it will be tough, but we believe we can do it.”
