Maternity services at Homerton University Hospital are set to benefit from nearly £200,000 worth of government funding.
The hospital in Homerton Row, Homerton, was awarded £194,000 to refurbish the postnatal ward and to increase the capacity of the antenatal ward.
The cash has been used to acquire 50 new reclining bedside chairs to provide more comfort for partners and expand the antenatal area with an additional treatment and assessment room to meet the growing numbers of mothers-to-be attending antenatal clinics at the hospital.
Maternity Minister, Dr Dan Poulter, said: “Making sure families receive a good experience when having a baby in NHS maternity units is a top priority for me, as both a doctor and a health minister.
“This investment is already making a big difference to families, with more choice and a better environment where women can give birth.”
The windfall follows on from £350,000 that was awarded to the hospital last year to invest in improvements to its delivery suite.
