St Joseph’s Hospice has received a grant worth over half a million pounds from the Department of Health to develop outpatient and community services for North and East London.
The £544,000 grant from the Department of Health will allow the hospice in Mare Street to refurbish its ground floor facilities and develop a Communities Hub.
The first phase of the plan includes making the ground floor of the hospice more user-friendly and accessible, with a new public space for St Joseph’s information service and for support groups.
Over time, it is hoped that a new café, exhibition space and wi-fi area will feature in the new development
Michael Kerin, Chief Executive of St Joseph’s, said: “This generous grant will enable us to develop our outpatient services and to support patients to live to the full in their communities and homes.”
“We already provide care and support for about a third of all those who die each year in this area and for their carers and families.”
The hospice serves patients from City and Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Newham, Islington, Haringey, Enfield, Waltham Forest and Redbridge.
