course teaches budgetting skills
The 16-20-year-olds will learn money-skills needed to live independently and those trapped in debt or struggling with bills will receive support.
The charity has teamed-up with Hackney Council and youth organisation Rathbone to deliver the intensive “Money Works course and participants will also achieve two accreditted budgeting and debt management certificates and participating in a group work programme.
“With high levels of poverty and unemployment Hackney is a priority area for MyBnk, said founder Lily Lapenna. “At the same time as working with young people in schools, we must work with young adults, enabling them to make the right decisions as they move into independent living.”
The charity also runs a successful school banking scheme at Yesoday Hatorah School for Girls, in Stamford Hill where students can obtain loans and set up saving accounts.
It is currently planning similar ventures, including one at the Skinner’s Company School in Wodberry Down later this year, alongside various microfinance workshops through the councils youth services and charities.
