Death Café cupcakes dished up in week about why "Dying Matters"
PUBLISHED: 12:23 11 May 2014
"Death Café" cupcakes and advice on how to write wills are some of the free events lined up next week at Hackney's hospice to encourage an open dialogue about death and dying.
The Dying Matters Awareness Week sessions at St Joseph’s Hospice also include the screening of a short film made by patients, staff, volunteers and service users there, captures the spontaneous responses to questions around death and dying that many people avoid thinking about until it’s too late.
Many people feel uncomfortable discussing dying and bereavement, and by hosting the events from Monday May 12 to Friday May 16 for everyone - whether or not they are affected by a life limiting illness – the hospice in Mare Street’s mission is to bring conversations around death and dying into the open.
Solicitor Emma Rowe will be on hand on Monday with advice on the importance of writing a will, and on Tuesday the Death Café movement is inviting people to gather over tea and cupcakes to talk about death and dying in an informal and relaxed environment.
