A Hackney based artist has donated one of her paintings to the specialist baby unit at Homerton Hospital as a lasting thank you to the staff.

Lateefa Spiker, 29, presented artwork Burgeoning to Dr Olga Kapellou and the hospital’s neonatal intensive care team to express her gratitude to them for helping her baby son.

Zade was rushed into the unit when he fell seriously ill soon after his birth on June 25.

Lateefa, of Brookfield Road, South Hackney, said: “Zade was very sick and we were coming and going into the unit for three weeks. Under the expert care and treatment of the nurses and doctors, Zade pulled through and is now a healthy little baby boy. I decided to donate one of my paintings to the unit as a thank you for the wonderful care we all received.”
