Hackney’s social care funding has been hit by £42million cuts since 2010, new figures reveal.
Union GMB has crunched publicly available government data to reveal the borough has been forced to shave 25 per cent off its budget.
In 2010 the town hall spent £169m on social care – but last year it was down to £126m.
The union has accused the government of favouring Tory strongholds for cash boosts. It claims the council will be forced to drop its spending another 10 per cent by 2020/21.
The union’s national secretary Rehana Azam said: “These outrageous figures highlight the deep divisions and inequality that exist in this country.

“The idea that the poorest people in the country have their social care funding slashed, while the wealthy get more money is sickening.
“As one of the richest countries in the world, the way our old and vulnerable are treated is a national disgrace with a social care lottery wielded by May’s government.”
