Shoreditch gay pub joins in promotion of HIV testing

PUBLISHED: 13:21 09 February 2012

Get tested at the Joiners Arms on Saturday

One of Shoreditch’s trendiest gay pubs is hosting an event to promote sexual health services this Valentine’s weekend.

The Joiners Arms in Hackney Road is teaming up with east London’s HIV charity, Positive East, on Saturday February 11 to encourage people to get tested by using quick on-site facilities.

The charity’s director, Mark Santos, said: “We are delighted Joiners want us to take our facilities to their venue, in the heart of the community we support.

“One in four people living with HIV don’t know they have the virus. Many are testing late and become unwell, seriously affecting their ability to live well with HIV.

“We encourage people to take an HIV test as a means of looking after your health.”

Donations on the door on both Saturday and Sunday will go to Positive East.

PLEASE NOTE: The date of the event given in Thursday’s edition of the Hackney Gazette (published February 9) was incorrect. It should have read Saturday February 11, not 22.
