Sir John Gieve has been appointed as the new chair for the Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Sir John, who has been the deputy chair and senior independent director since May 2014, replaces Sir Tim Melville-Ross whose term of office ends in March after six years as chair of the trust.
He will take on the role at the beginning of April.
Sir John was deputy governor of the Bank of England from 2006 to 2009, the Permanent Secretary to the Home Office between 2001 and 2005 and before that a managing director of the Treasury for three years. He is also chair of the global innovation foundation Nesta and a director of Vocalink which provides the critical infrastructure for most payments between bank accounts in the UK.
Lead governor John Bootes said: “Sir John not only adds his immense knowledge and experience of the public sector and the City of London to the trust board, but he also has a full and thorough knowledge of what makes Homerton tick as an organisation.”
