Hackney Open House: Get a glimpse behind closed doors during nosy parkers’ annual weekend

Some of Hackney’s most fascinating buildings are open to the public for free tours this weekend.
It is part of the annual Open House event, which celebrates London’s architecture.
In all, there are 45 sites available for touring on Saturday and Sunday – and not all of them are necessarily relics of Hackney’s past.
For example, one of the tours is at the apartment block in Barrett’s Grove, Dalston, which was built last year out of cross-laminated timber.
On the opposite end of the historical scale is St Augustine’s Tower, off Mare Street, which is the remaining tower of the medieval parish church.
Other tours include Hackney Town Hall, Hoxton Hall, the Rio cinema, Hackney Empire and Haggerston School.
