30 buildings in Hackney are opening their doors to the public for architecture festival.

The best designed buildings in Hackney will throw open their doors to the public as part of London’s largest architecture festival on the weekend of September 18 and 19.

Hackney Empire, Stoke Newington Town Hall, Shoreditch Town Hall and St Augustine’s Tower, are among 30 eye-catching buildings in the borough which can be toured, free of charge, as part of the Open House London festival.

The Town Hall in Stoke Newington Church Street, boasting Art Deco designs, including maple dance floors and a vaulted domed ceiling, is open to the public on September 19 while visitors can go backstage at Hackney Empire in Mare Street, a Grade II listed auditorium, on both days.

Many tours will be led by experts, including architect-led tours of The Bridge Academy in Laburnum Street and The City Academy in Homerton Row.

Some tours require booking. For information and a full list of buildings, visit openhouselondon.org.uk.
