A heroic Hackney ex-serviceman from Hackney has been heralded by London Mayor Boris Johnson for his outstanding work with the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.
Retired Regimental Sergeant Jim Wills, who lives in Homerton, was presented with a Team London Star award by the Mayor for his selfless dedication to voluntary work.
The awards are given to those who have worked to make their area or neighbourhood a better place, and the Mayor commended his commitment to guaranteeing the welfare of ex-officers and their dependents.
The community reception at City Hall last week brought together individuals and organisations to promote community cohesion and provide networking opportunities.
“All across the capital, ordinary Londoners are making an extraordinary difference to our city,” said Boris Johnson.
