South Korea attacker joins Erik Lamela and Danny Rose on sidelines and all three are unlikely to face Newcastle United on opening day of the season

Tottenham Hotspur could be without several key players for the start of the 2017/18 Premier League campaign.

On Thursday the club confirmed Heung-min Son would need surgery after suffering a fractured arm on international duty.

The South Korea attacker landed awkwardly during a World Cup qualification defeat to Qatar in Doha.

Scans later revealed the 24-year-old had sustained a fracture to his right forearm and he had an operation last Friday before being discharged on Tuesday.

The injury will sideline Son for at least four weeks, though it could see him miss the start of the season.

The former Bayer Leverkusen ace is expected to be in a cast for two weeks, though may not make a full recovery for 12 weeks.

Spurs kick-off their new campaign with an away match at Newcastle United on the weekend of August 12-13.

Son is extremely likely to miss the trip to St James’ Park and two of his team-mates are set to sit out the clash with the Magpies as well.

Erik Lamela is almost certainly not going to play any part at Newcastle on the opening day of the season.

The Argentine has not represented Tottenham since coming off the bench during their 2-1 League Cup defeat at Liverpool on October 25.

Lamela’s injury problems have been well documented with the former Roma attacker eventually having hip surgery in April.

It occurred after five months of different types of treatment, which saw the winger go back to his former club for treatment at one stage.

Although Lamela has started rehabilitation work, the Argentine is not expected to return until October, meaning he would have missed a whole year through injury.

It is a similar story for Danny Rose, though the left-back will aim to be back much quicker than Lamela.

The England international hasn’t appeared for Spurs since starting the goalless draw at Sunderland on January 31.

Rose was forced off before half time, but only underwent surgery in May over a knee problem and is not expected to return to training until August.

He is only set to miss one or two Premier League games at most, but Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino will be anxious about the progress of Lamela and Son.
