The South Korea has been shortlisted for the London Football Awards 2019 along with several others from Spurs

Heung-min Son’s status in England continues to rise with the Tottenham Hotspur ace showing his worth to the team once again on Saturday.

Spurs were heading for a frustrating goalless draw with lowly Newcastle United in the Premier League at Wembley Stadium until the Lilywhites number seven intervened.

Days earlier against Watford, Son scored a late equaliser to help inspire a dramatic 2-1 win under the arch in Brent.

On Saturday he was at it again, with the Magpies proving stubborn opposition until it all changed in the 83rd minute.

Fernando Llorente laid the ball off to Son and he rifled home from outside the area to score the all-important winning goal.

Martin Dubravka would have been disappointed with his part in the goal, but Spurs and their influential attacker didn’t care.

It was Son’s 14th goal of the campaign, which is a remarkable tally when you consider he didn’t get off the mark until October 31.

As things stand the South Korea international looks set to beat his best ever season for the club.

During the 2017/18 campaign he found the net 18 times for Tottenham and during the final term at White Hart Lane, he scored on 21 occasions for Spurs.

Son’s winner capped a fantastic few days for him personally after he was shortlisted for the Premier League Player of the Year in this year’s London Football Awards.

The awards recognise the stellar efforts of those involved with football in the capital over the past 12 months.

Toscafund sponsor the accolade and there is a Tottenham feel about it with Harry Kane also in the running alongside ex-Spurs man Andros Townsend, now of Crystal Palace.

Also vying with Son, Kane and Townsend for the honour are Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Boss Mauricio Pochettino is up for the BH2-sponsored Manger of the Year alongside Lee Bowyer, of Charlton Athletic, Watford’s Javi Gracia, Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri and Arsenal Women’s coach Joe Montemurro.

It is not only the Tottenham men’s team which have been recognised either as Rianna Dean got shortlisted for the Women’s Player of the Year.

The hotshot forward for Spurs Ladies is in the running alongside Arsenal Women’s duo Vivianne Miedema and Jordan Nobbs and Chelsea Women’s pair Ji So-Yun and Erin Cuthbert.

Finally Tottenham’s legendary playmaker Glen Hoddle, also previous a manager, is this year’s winning of the Outstanding Contribution to London Football award, which is sponsored by Weston Homes.

In its fifth year, the London Football Awards, sponsored by Toscafund, raises funds for former Arsenal goalkeeper and TV presenter, Bob Wilson OBE and his wife, Megs’ charity, Willow - the only national charity working with seriously ill young adults aged 16 to 40 to fulfil uplifting and unforgettable Special Days.

The shortlist of nominees was agreed by an independent panel of judges and announced by Bob Wilson OBE at the launch at Coutts’ historical head office in London on January 28.

The winners of the nine awards will be announced at the prestigious event at London’s Battersea Evolution on February 28.
