Homerton residents are gearing up for their own mini-Olympics this Saturday, to celebrate a summer which has brought the world to East London.
Athletics, outdoor games, face painting and live music are just some of the activities on offer for all the family at the Kingsmead Estate community fun day, just yards from the Olympic Park.
Adults’ and children’s sessions will be held in sports like shot put, javelin, long jump and relay, and the winning athletes will be able to emulate victorious Olympians by taking their place on the podium for a special medal ceremony.
Hackney-based environmental organisation ecoACTIVE will also be there, along with Groundwork, with information on an employment support service and a new local food-growing project in partnership with Estate to Plate.
The free event organised by Christchurch on the Mead, Sanctuary Housing, Hackney Marsh Partnership and Hackney Council starts at 2pm and takes place between Fairmead House and Runnymede House, off Kingsmead Way.
