German hotel chain 25hours has applied for a licence for its first UK venture in Shoreditch High Street.
The 200-room, 30-floor hotel will be built on the site currently occupied by Majestic Wine and wants to serve booze and hold licensed events at the venue.
Its application has been opposed by local campaigners, however, who say the firm has ignored planning conditions regarding how much space is to be used for restaurants and where that space is.
“The applicants should be told to withdraw this application and submit one that is compliant with the planning permission they have been granted,” say the Jago Action Group. “It is also highly offensive to the local community that this hotel group, in its first venture in London, simply ignores the outcome of the planning process.”
They, any police, have also questioned the need for off sales of alcohol. A decision will be made on Tuesday.
