Dogs of all shapes and sizes came together this week for an official unveiling of the mosaic in Hackney Downs in which they are portrayed.
The Hounds of Hackney Downs was created by volunteers from the Hackney mosaic project, a community organisation that aims to help people from the borough in recovery from addiction and mental health problems.
The project was started in 2011 by Tessa Hunkin, a professional mosaicist, who designed the latest creation.
Tessa told the Hackney Gazette: “Our studio is in the pavilion in the middle of the park and everyone was on the alert looking out for attractive dogs, but all dogs are attractive so we kept collecting more subjects.
“The main picture features 10 dogs frolicking towards each other, and then we did another panel for another nine, which quickly increased to 21, and it was hard to stop there. “So many candidates, but luckily so much more wall space.”
“I hope we can do another 21,” she added.
