Hoxton church hopes for new kid’s playground

The community has rallied together to build a new children’s playground in Hoxton.
Members of St John’s church in Pitfield Street have launched an open-air café to raise funds for the play area.
The Bishop of Stepney, the Rt Revd Adrian Newman, came to launch the new café, which will run every Sunday from 1-4pm throughout the summer.
Selling a whole host of treats, it raised £115.20 on its opening day, with all profits matched and trebled by social enterprise group Groundwork.
Revd Graham Hunter, vicar of St John’s church, said: “Hoxton has one of the lowest availability of domestic green space anywhere in London – so this new playground will be a vital resource for the whole community.
“I’m thrilled church members have taken it upon themselves to raise funds in such a fun and innovative way.”
Donations can be made to the playground at groundwork.org.uk.
