Electric junction box explodes.

AN electrical junction box under the pavement in Hoxton Square exploded on bonfire night leaving some residents without power.

A fire crew was called to the area at around 11.20pm on Friday November 5 and stayed on site until 12.45am.

Police attended the scene as electrical engineers worked to make the area safe.

No one was hurt.

A spokeswoman for UK Power Network, who electricity in much of London, said: “A fault occurred on a high voltage underground cable in the Hoxton Square area at 11.31pm on Friday, November 5.

“In order to carry out repair work in safety, UK Power Networks engineers has to isolate power to 31 customers from midnight to 3.30am. We do appreciate how difficult it is to be without power and would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
