A Hoxton woman is looking forward to the carnival atmosphere when she runs in this Sunday’s London Marathon – despite her “excruciating” experience in last year’s race.

Jo Statham from Buckland Street will be raising money for World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) when she runs on April 22, and she is aiming to beat last year’s time of five hours and 13 minutes.

“I know from experience that it’s going to be painful. The last few miles are excruciating – knees and hips hurt with every step and pedicures will be off the menu for a while too, unless I pay danger money,” said the 38-year old account manager.

“But it’s an amazing day. Last year I found myself fighting back emotional tears during the last few miles – such was the build up to the big day.”
