Hugo Lloris feels Tottenham lack the maturity and experience of some of their rivals at the top of the Premier League, and he believes Sunday’s draw at Everton shows they have lessons to learn.

But the captain says he and his team-mates are excited about what the second half of the season could bring in the Premier League, Europa League and FA Cup.

Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Goodison Park leaves Spurs fourth in the table with a three-point cushion ahead of Manchester United, while they are only six points adrift of league leaders Arsenal.

Some view Mauricio Pochettino’s side as dark horses in the title race, but Lloris said: “We are just looking at the next game. We don’t have the maturity of some teams like Manchester City or Arsenal.

“You need experience. You can’t buy it. You need to play games, you need to lose, you need to win – even from a game like Everton there is a lot to learn.

“When you have control like we did in the first half, you need to be more clinical with the last pass, with a shot on target.

“It’s the Premier League, it’s high-level and games are always about details. We missed a bit of luck but at the same time at Watford we scored in the last minute so it’s a balance. We’ve played two games away and got four points. It’s a good return.

“We are young, we are talented, we are doing well and there is a great spirit in the team. We are working hard so everything is positive but we need to go step by step and we will see where we are before the last 10 games. At the moment we just want to fight and stay as high as possible in the table.

“I think it’s a great chance for us and we have been rewarded for our effort. It’s a big chance to stay in our position at the moment [fourth] and we need to take advantage of that - don’t think too much, focus on ourselves, go game by game and, like every season, the most important feeling at the end of the season is to have no regrets, and we hope we are going in this way.”

Tottenham are now gearing up for two successive home games against second-placed Leicester City – first in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday and then in the league next Wednesday.

Spurs drew 1-1 with Claudio Ranieri’s side at the Foxes’ King Power Stadium in August, but Lloris said: “It will be a different game.

“We know in front of our fans we can create great things and we have to do well against Leicester because [on Wednesday] it’s a direct game between two challengers for the top four so those points could be important.

“We have a lot of games ahead and we are very excited to come to the second part of the season because we have a lot to win. This is our mentality.

“We are a hungry young team but very talented and we want to challenge the best teams in England and Europe, and we will see at the end of the season where we will be.”
