The Spurs captain admitted it was difficult to understand how Manchester United kept a clean sheet at Wembley on Sunday

Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris was frustrated with the 1-0 defeat at home to Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.

Spurs created a number of chances in the second half at Wembley Stadium, but David de Gea produced 11 saves to thwart the hosts.

It ensured Marcus Rashford’s strike in the 44th minute handed the Red Devils all three points and left Tottenham’s goalkeeper perplexed.

“Yes David was fantastic for Manchester United, but I think we need to look a bit more at ourselves,” Lloris said.

“In football you only get what you deserve. If we didn’t score it is because we missed a little bit of precision and efficiency.

“Obviously de Gea made a fantastic performance, but when you create so much in one half, I think it is difficult to understand how the opponent kept a clean sheet.

“But this is part of football, sometimes the luck is not on your side. I think this defeat is frustrating, but we need to keep the same spirit and the same way to play football because there is nothing to say. We created so many chances and we were solid too.”

What added to Spurs’ disappointment was the sloppy nature in which they allowed the away side to take the lead.

Kieran Trippier gave the ball away nearly the halfway line and Paul Pogba picked out Rashford with a superb through ball, and the forward drilled a low effort beyond the Tottenham custodian and into the corner.

It occurred just as Mauricio Pochettino’s team were getting into their stride and Lloris conceded in the big games you cannot afford to make such mistakes.

He added: “I think the way we conceded the goal is a bit frustrating because we lost the ball in a too easy way and then in two passes they created a chance and Rashford has the quality and ability to score.

“You cannot resume the game with only this action, but at the end it is the only thing you remember – this goal just before half time.

“We know at this level and in this type of game the team who take the lead take a big advantage, especially just before half time, but it doesn’t mean we don’t deserve better because the second half was fantastic.

“They could scored too, but we created and played very good football. It can be unfair sometimes, but you have to accept it.”

Spurs are now waiting to discover the extent of Harry Kane’s ankle injury, which saw him hobble off the Wembley pitch come full time.

The club need the swelling to go down until they can perform a scan, however, to find out the severity of the problem.
