The streets came alive with spectacular costumes, energetic dance and uplifting music on Sunday for the Hackney One Carnival procession.

About 800 performers and volunteers from 25 carnival, community groups and schools snaked their way from Ridley Road and up Dalston Lane to the Town Hall in Mare Street, before heading back through the Narrow Way for a grand finale in Ridley Road.

Paraiso School of Samba, Soca Sagaboys, Pantonic Steel Ochestra, Unity, Tropical Isles and Urban Touch formed some of the groups adding colour to this year’s parade, along with Shacklewell primary school and Our Lady’s Convent High School.

Hackney’s best young musicians treated onlookers to a performance in Hackney Town Hall Square during the afternoon and a children’s play area was set up in Gillett Square.
