Annual walk organised by NLLDC celebrates World Wetlands Day
Stuck for something to do today? Celebrate World Wetlands Day on a walk around Walthamstow Marshes.
Organised by the New Lammas Lands Defence Committee (NLLDC), the walk begins in Lea Bridge Road and ends in Snaresbrook.
The two mile route will follow the eastern part of the ancient Walthamstow Slip, which runs from the River Lea to Eagle Pond - on the W12 bus route and close to Snaresbrook Station.
The NLLDC was created to defend and preserve the ancient Lammas Lands of Leyton as public open space, free from enclosure, encroachment, and inappropriate use.
This year the theme for the annual World Wetlands Day is “forests for water and wetlands.”
Meet at 2.15pm outside the Waltham Oak public house, at Knotts Green, Lea Bridge Road, in Leyton Green.
Children and well-behaved dogs are welcome, however the walk is not really suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.
Some of the route may be wet and muddy, therefore stout waterproof boots are required for insurance reasons.
