Aston Villa visit Karen Hills’ team on Sunday for their second FA Women’s Super League 2 game of the season

Marauding midfielder Josie Green says Tottenham Hotspur Ladies’ performance in last week’s FA Women’s Super League 2 debut at Durham gives them the belief that they have the weapons to compete at the highest level.

The Welsh international feels a 2-1 reverse failed to paint a true reflection – and sees no reason why the Lilywhites can’t continue where they left off last season and make Cheshunt FC a home where teams find it hard to come and play, starting with Aston Villa on Sunday.

She said: “It’s massively important. I think last season we made it really tough for teams at home and believe we will continue to do so this season. The girls are all really excited and ready to play there on Sunday.

“The coaching staff have done an excellent job behind the scenes showing us what worked and what we can work on. We played really well – we mainly have to take our chances as we created enough to win the game.

“Despite the result we have lots of positives to take from the game [at Durham]. We had some really good spells in the match, we just have to build on that and take it into the game for Sunday.”

Green’s excited about the potential partnerships and competition that’s arising in the middle with Maya Vio, Sophie Mclean and summer addition, Coral-Jade Haines.

The latter two impressed alongside Green to form a dynamic trio at New Ferens Park – and she says the frustration of last week will only serve as extra motivation.

“It gives us massive confidence,” she said. “It just proves we deserve to be there and just motivates us even more to go and get that result [against Villa].

“Obviously playing with Sophie [and Maya] last season we built up a great partnership on and off the pitch. Coral is technically a really great player and has fitted in so well. It’s going to be exciting to build on last season.”
