Hills delighted with response from Spurs after going behind at Lewes

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies will entertain lowly Millwall Lionesses on Sunday eager to stay perfect in this season’s FA Women’s Championship.

Spurs fought back from a goal down to defeat Lewes Women 3-1 last weekend to make it four wins from four this term.

It has been a brilliant start to the new campaign for Karen Hills and her young, improving squad, but they are still not top.

Manchester United Women are in first place after playing five times and winning four and drawing the other game.

Nevertheless, Tottenham can be proud of their start to the season and will now hope to make it five wins from five at Cheshunt’s Theobalds Lane on Sunday (1pm kick-off).

A brace from Rianna Dean helped Spurs recover from Sarah Kempson’s opener to win 3-1 away to Lewes.

Bianca Baptiste levelled for Tottenham before Dean kept up her impressive form with a double in West Sussex.

Hills was pleased to see her team overcome the tough challenge and praised Spurs’ two-goal hero.

She said: “It was a difficult game and Lewes have done well this season so we knew it would be tough. We had to really concentrate and we done well all over the pitch. It was a very good performance and now we’re in a really strong position.”

The Tottenham boss continued: “After the Lewes goal went in, we stepped it up and got ourselves back into the game and although they put us under a lot of pressure, I think we took a hold of the game and put in a professional display.

“Rianna was excellent in front of goal and really owned that number nine role, and was unlucky in the end not to get a hat-trick.”

After scoring in a third successive game, a humble Dean was quick to point out that her flying form is influenced by the squad as a collective.

“I wouldn’t be able to score my goals without the team’s hard work,” Tottenham’s in-form forward insisted.

“Credit to the girls, I think we put in a professional performance. We wanted to get three points and we did just that.”
