The spotlight will shine on talented young singers, rappers dancers and comedians as they take to the iconic Hackney Empire stage this Friday, for the borough’s annual talent show.

Just nine acts have been selected for the Alter Ego final, from the 50 performers aged between 13 and 21 who auditioned earlier this month.

The show at the Mare Street theatre will be hosted by MTV presenter Kat B, who played King Rat in the Empire’s pantomime Dick Whittington.

The winner will get the chance to kick start their career with free mentoring from industry professionals as well as a year’s free membership to the Anna Fiorentini Theatre and Film School.

The contest is part of the council’s free Discover Young Hackney Festival, which runs from February 1 to 28, to promote participation in the arts for young people through a range of taster sessions and workshops in music, dance, radio, art, literature, photography, design, singing, film and theatre.
