Youngsters are helping transform a derelict scrap of ground underneath the road bridge at Mabley Green, known as the undercroft, through a community art project.
Over the next few months kids will help design and produce a large mural to decorate the walls of the bridge and inject some much-needed colour into the area.
A series of workshops from environmental charity ecoACTIVE will see ideas and designs swapped before the mural is painted and officially unveiled next Easter. It is hoped the young people will be inspired by the local landscape, which now features an edible park and more than 500 trees.
Workshops funded by Sanctuary Housing will take place at Kingsmead Primary School, Concorde Youth Hub and the Daubeney Children’s Centre. The project is part of a wider project to spruce up Mabley Green, overseen by the National Lottery-funded Wick Award and Stephen Lawrence Trust.
