The South Korean will be available for the Champions League semi-final second leg and will have a point to prove

Ajax midfielder Lasse Schone admitted Heung-min Son’s return from suspension will boost Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of winning at the Johan Cryuff Arena this week.

The Champions League semi-final second leg will take place on Wednesday and drama could be the order of the day given how these two teams have fared this season.

Spurs helped produced an unforgettable clash with Manchester City in the quarter-finals while Ajax stunned Real Madrid and then Juventus to reach this stage of the tournament.

Erik ten Hag’s side were irresistible for 30 minutes at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last Tuesday and the Lilywhites were fortunate to only be one goal down.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men recovered, however, and now travel to the Netherlands with a chance even if they are up against a formidable team containing youthful exuberance and leading 1-0 from the first leg.

Son missed the first meeting due to suspension, but will be back on Wednesday and after scoring three times against City, will be hungry for more goals and looking to impress after his red card at AFC Bournemouth on Saturday.

Talking about the South Korean after the first leg, Schone said: “He played incredible in the last couple of (Champions League) games.

“Of course it is going to be good for them and worse for us, but we play at home and let’s hope we can perform even better.”

Ajax’s form at Johan Cryuff Arena is predictable impressive; they have scored plenty of goals in league wins against Vitesse, Excelsior and PSV over the last few weeks.

However in the Champions League, they have failed to win any of their last three home matches which must give Tottenham encouragement.

Juventus held them to a 1-1 draw last month, Real Madrid beat them 2-1 in February and Bayern Munich earned a point following a 3-3 draw in December.

It shows Ajax can find life tough on home turf, but Spurs will have to produce arguably their best display of the campaign to go to Amsterdam and win and in the process reach a first ever European Cup final.

Denmark international Schone added: “We played well for the first 30 minutes but they put a guy in the midfield and made it four-v-four.

“Second half we did a little bit better, but the second half was more about running, duels and long balls and that is not really our thing or what we are best at.

“Overall we worked hard and fought for every inch and I don’t think we gave away many chances against us, so that’s a compliment to the team.”

Tottenham will hope they can create more clear-cut opportunities in the second leg and if they can take them, the improbable may be possible again.
