This week will be the last chance for residents in Stoke Newington to consult with the council over the planned Sainsbury’s, a pressure group has warned.
Stokey Local is calling out to the public to make their voices heard before the consultation closes on September 16.
Newmark Properties submitted their controversial application to build a 1,486 square metre Sainsbury’s with a 68 unit housing development in Wilmer Place on Stoke Newington High Street on July 13.
A spokesperson said: “We believe that the scheme, which will be car free and developed to the highest environmental standards, will increase footfall to the area thereby aiding local businesses, provide new local jobs and help sustain the Stoke Newington economy into the future.”
However, Stokey Local argues the development will damage the conservation area of Abney Park Cemetery and suck the lifeblood out of local stores in the area.
The group’s efforts have already altered the plans to reduce the food store by a third, to keep the Victorian front of high street and provide affordable homes above.
