Angel Islington and Broadway Market near London Fields in Hackney have been picked up as notorious hot spots for people dumping their household rubbish on the Regent’s Canal towpath.

Now the charity which looks after London’s waterways is urging on canal users to respect the wildlife haven.

Sam Thomas, London maintenance manager at the Canal and River Trust, said: “While the majority of people take care of the canal, unfortunately their enjoyment is being spoilt by a selfish minority who are bringing bags stuffed full of domestic rubbish and worse from their homes and dumping them in a public place.

“We empty the bins in the morning and within an hour they’ll be full again.”

If you see someone dumping bags of rubbish call the trust on 020 7517 5560.
