Campaigners in London Fields say they are “hugely disappointed” after plans for two new homes on their estate were signed off.

The Morland Blanchard Tenants’ and Residents’ Association had battled the plans from developer London Fields West LLP since it bought the land from the council in controversial circumstances at a 2013 auction.

People on the Morland Estate wanted the land for a community garden, and had seen off one planning application for the site over the planned four-and-a-half storey height. But last week revised plans for a three-and-a-half storey development were approved by councillors.

The TRA said: “We fought a long battle but it feels like in the end neighbour concerns came second. The whole system giving developers pre-planning access to officers seems loaded against communities. The TRA and neighbours are looking at what we can do to minimise impact and disruption.”
