The beloved London Fields Flower Sellers statue has been restored to its former glory after 30 years of exposure to the elements.

The sculpture, created by local artists Freeform Arts Trust and schoolkids in the 1980s, had become weathered and in need of repair. So the council hired mosaic artist Tamara Froud from Mosaic Allsorts to repair it. The well-loved sculpture is covered in intricate mosaic patterns depicting different produce which used to be sold, and in some cases still is, in Broadway Market.

The figures are surrounded by sheep reflecting the importance the area used to hold for grazing animals on route to Smithfields Meat Market in the City of London.

Deputy mayor Feryal Demirci said: “This much loved piece of public art needed some TLC after years of being exposed to the weather, it’s great to see it repaired with residents already enjoying sitting around the sculpture. I encourage visitors to visit the sculpture and see all the different types of flowers and fruits hidden in its design.”
