Joni Mitchell has nothing on a group of green Hackney youngsters who took their anti-pollution protest song to Westminster on Tuesday.
They made the trip from Gayhurst Community Primary School in Gayhurst Road, London Fields to Parliament as part of the British Lung Foundation’s campaign for air quality monitoring outside schools.
The young singers are members of the I Like Clean Air campaign formed by parents in 2014.
Labour MP for Hackney South and Shoreditch Meg Hillier was there to sponsor their parliamentary performance.
As many as 3,000 schools across the UK are located in areas with illegally high levels of air pollution, according to a report by Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
Worried Gayhurst Primary parent Shazia Ali-Webber said: “At current rates, air quality won’t improve in major cities for a decade. Today’s primary children could have irreversible lung damage by then.”
