Hackney Council has been barking out orders to a theatre company after promoters illegally pinned posters to trees in London Fields.

The town hall’s environmental team Greener Hackney took to Twitter to ask The Big House Theatre Company to stop fly-posting for its new play Knife Edge. They wrote: “Hi @BigHouseTheatre – this play looks really good but please don’t advertise it by sticking pins in our trees.”

A theatre spokeswoman said it was the work of the “enthusiastic young cast members”. She added: “We are truly sorry for any damage caused.”

Knife Edge, written by David Watson and directed by Maggie Norris, is about fear, food and family and is set to premiere at Pond Dalston on Wednesday.
