Jane Ni Dhulchaointigh developed her award-winning mouldable glue – Sugru –while studying for an MA in Product Design at the Royal College of Art.
The “sticky putty”, said to be able to “fix anything” by sticking to it and turning into a strong flexible rubber overnight, is produced in a factory in Tudor Road, south Hackney.
The unique material forms a strong bond with aluminium, steel, ceramics, glass, wood and some plastics and rubbers.
Jane said: “We’ve now got over a million users around the world who regularly get in touch to share videos and pictures of their latest triumph, however small.”
Following a crowdfunding bid last year to raise more than £3m, Sugru is soon to be sold in Halfords.
