Traffic police ask witnesses to come forward

A pedestrian knocked down by a scooter in Shoreditch last month has died.

Jonathan Morgan, 67, was left fighting for his life when he collided with a Piaggio scooter in Great Eastern Street at the junction with Charlotte Road shortly before 7.20pm on Tuesday October 19.

Mr Morgan, of Rye, East Sussex, is thought to have tried to cross Great Eastern Street between two parked cars.

He suffered a severe head injury in the crash. Ambulance crews treated him at the scene and rushed him to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel where he was in intensive care in a critical condition.

He died on Saturday (October 30).

The man driving the scooter stopped at the time of the collision and was treated for minor injuries before being released.

Witnesses reported seeing a briefcase left in the road.

A date is yet to be set for both a post-mortem examination and the opening of an inquest into Mr Morgan’s death at Poplar Coroner’s Court.

Traffic police officers from the Met’s road death investigation unit at Chadwell Heath Traffic Garage are asking witnesses to come forward.
