Arsenal have managed to pile misery on someone who doesn’t even support them after matchday parking rules were put in place for a friendly match.

John Lindeck was visiting his daughter in Stoke Newington on September 3, while over at the Emirates Arsenal Legends were defeating AC Milan Glorie 4-2 in a charity game.

On matchdays, the Premier League club and the two councils, Hackney and Islington, extend the hours for controlled parking zones around the stadium.

But John checked to see Arsenal were not playing a proper fixture at home that day and felt no need to use a parking voucher.

So when he returned to her house to find a parking ticket waiting for him he was “appalled”.

He said: “I was absolutely livid. I gather it was because Arsenal pensioners were playing Milan pensioners, which can surely only be classified as a non-event.

“I strongly object to the practice of bringing match parking arrangements into play without telling people.

“None of my daughter’s neighbours had any idea this event was taking place.

“This is the second time I have been caught like this. Previously there was an unadvertised pre-season friendly and I was caught.

“Her house is in Lordship Grove, about three miles away from the stadium and not in the slightest bit affected by the football.”

John has written a strongly-worded letter to Hackney Council demanding his ticket is revoked.

The match featured old fans’ favourites including Robert Pires, David Seaman and Kanu.

It was organised by The Arsenal Foundation and Save the Children, with the £1million proceeds funding football pitches in London, Jordan and Somalia. Arsenal in the Community, which works in Islington and surrounding boroughs, will also get a share of the money raised.

The town hall said matchday parking was put in because of the 60,000 attendance at the match and signs were put in place. They said the ticket could not be revoked but John could appeal the usual way.

Arsenal also said it had advertised the event as normal in the community and it was featured on its website.

and Arsenal have not responded to requests for comment.
