Hackney pub the Cock Tavern has swept away the opposition to win Beard Friendly Pub of the Year for an astonishing second time in a row.

The Mare Street boozer brushed off competition from Bag of Nails in Bristol and newcomer the Stoneworks in Peterborough to claim the gong.

The competition is run by the Beard Liberation Front, an informal network of beard wearers.

Organiser Keith Flett popped in to the pub on Thursday when it was holding its Burns Night celebrations to present the award.

In a statement some would label short and sweet, the pub declared: “We dared to dream and it happened.”

Keith added: “It is a pub notable for the number of hirsute customers it attracts, but also a range of beard friendly beers and ciders.

“The Cock bristles with beard friendliness.”

In a separate poll Hackney’s Clapton Craft won Beard Friendly Bottle Shop of the Year.
