The Lilywhites ended a three-game losing run with a 2-1 success at Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday

Mauricio Pochettino lauded the effort of his Spurs players after they returned to form with a 2-1 win at Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.

Tottenham Hotspur travelled to the Amex Stadium without a victory in September and in the middle of a three-match losing run.

Spurs managed to end their tricky spell, however, as goals from Harry Kane and Erik Lamela put them two up and although Anthony Knockaert pulled one back in stoppage time, the Lilywhites held on.

“The spirit we showed was the spirit I wanted to see in all of the games,” Pochettino said, as quoted by Press Association Sport.

“I am so happy with the attitude. We know very well we have a great quality, with great players who can play amazing football and in some periods we played so well.

“We deserved the victory in the end, but of course we are very disappointed with the way we ended the game, the final two minutes.

“It’s impossible that it happens again. It’s good that it happens and you win, but to concede a goal like we did was a very bad feeling.

“Of course the players were suffering a lot, the pressure was high and they wanted to deliver a very good result for the fans, for themselves and for us.

“I think we need to be pleased and congratulate them because the effort was massive after the defeat away to Inter Milan.”

Kane put Tottenham ahead three minutes before half time of the Premier League clash to end his own drought.

The England skipper hadn’t netted since the 3-0 victory at Manchester United – August 27 – but drilled home from the penalty spot at Brighton.

Kieran Trippier’s free kick had been handled by Glenn Murray and Kane made no mistake from 12-yards.

It was 2-0 with 76 played as Lamela finished off a superb move to continue his excellent start to the new campaign.

Eric Dier found the former A.S Roma attacker and after he played the ball out wide to Lucas Moura, he popped up in the area to curl home Danny Rose’s excellent cut back

Knockaert fired past Paulo Gazzaniga in the third minute of stoppage time, but it was only a consolation as Spurs returned to winning ways by the seaside.
