Spurs boss wants team to enjoy facing one of the best teams in the world with all eyes set to be on Harry Kane

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is excited about tomorrow’s Champions League Group H match at holders Real Madrid.

Spurs take on the La Liga champions, who have won Europe’s biggest competition for the last two seasons.

It is one of the most important games in Tottenham’s recent history, but Pochettino has urged his players to enjoy the experience.

He said: “Real Madrid is a big challenge for us in the Champions League, so a different competition.

“We are going to play against one of the best teams in the world, but I think it is so exciting to play at Bernabeu.

“It will be a very tough game and we need to recover well after the two weeks where everyone was away and the massive effort against AFC Bournemouth, so we need to work hard to help the staff to recover well.”

A lot of the focus will be on Harry Kane with the England man in stunning form during the last few weeks.

He failed to find the net on Saturday, however, but Pochettino revealed the forward was still pleased.

“It is important not only Harry Kane is scoring goals. It was Christian (Eriksen) against AFC Bournemouth, but the most important thing is the collective and the group,” said Tottenham’s manager.

“Harry is so happy. When he is scoring he is more than happy, but he is so happy because he wants to win and then he hopes to score because he’s a striker. It is important different players score goals too.”

One of Spurs’ better performers at the weekend was Harry Winks with the midfielder appearing to take a lot of confidence after making his senior international debut for England earlier this month and he is expected to start again tomorrow.

Pochettino added: “He was very good. He is a midfielder with great qualities and big potential. It was so important for him to get the national team call-up because it confirms your quality.

“It is a big motivation for him and he was very good (against Bournemouth) and he showed all of his good quality.”
