The Argentinean reflects on Tottenham’s victory over the Terriers, the performances of Dele Alli and Heung-min Son and the need to concentrate on Juventus now

Mauricio Pochettino admitted he isn’t concerned by what results Premier League top four rivals Chelsea and Manchester United achieve over the next two days, insisting his focus now is on Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League clash with Juventus.

Spurs defeated Huddersfield Town 2-0 earlier this afternoon with Heung-min Son netting a brace.

It could have been by a greater margin, but the win moves the Lilywhites five points clear of Chelsea and up to third ahead of Liverpool’s clash at home to Newcastle United, which kicked off at 5.30pm today.

Antonio Conte’s Blues face a tricky trip to City tomorrow while United’s travel to struggling Crystal Palace on Monday.

But Pochettino said: “We are now in a position where we have to be focused and try to prepare in the best way for our game against Juventus.

“We don’t have control of what is going to happen tomorrow, but we are happy because to win the three points was our objective and our job and now it is done, we are focused on Juventus.”

Son stole the headlines again at Wembley, continuing his astonishing record at the national stadium.

The South Korean has scored 15 goals this season with 13 of them at home and he was praised by his manager after the win over Huddersfield.

Pochettino said: “Son is one of the players who you always expect amazing things from. He is a talented player, consistent and very professional and of course when a player like him or Harry (Kane) work a lot then that work pays back.

“I’m very happy and pleased for him and the team because his two goals helped us to be in a very good position in the table right now.”

Dele Alli created Son’s first and although he has now gone 14 games without a goal, this was his fifth assist in his last five matches in all competitions.

He played a big role in Tottenham coming from two down to draw in Turin, won the penalty at Rochdale on February 18 and set up Kyle Walker-Peters’ effort against Dale at Wembley on Wednesday before producing a perfect through ball this afternoon.

“I am happy with the performance of Dele,” said Pochettino. “He participated a lot during the game and he assisted again and I think he’s such an important player for us, I’m happy with him.”

The victory was Pochettino’s 100th in the league as Spurs manager and he achieved the feat in 197 games – the same amount as Kenny Daglish.

When asked about the achievement, the Argentinean was very modest, he said: “Is it a good record? I don’t know, if you compare with whom? For me, Kenny Daglish is a legend. I am only a simple man.”
