Former Leeds United youngster will look to get up to speed some more during his time with the national team

Despite many of his Tottenham Hotspur team-mates pulling out of the current England squad, Danny Rose will look to use the next week with his country as more time to get back to his best.

The left-back started the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday, but is still working his way up to speed after missing close to 10 months of football with a knee injury.

Rose made his comeback at Real Madrid on October 17 when he came on as a late substitute during the 1-1 draw in Spain.

Since then, the defender has started two games – the 3-2 defeat at home to West Ham in the League Cup and Sunday’s victory.

And while the likes of Harry Kane, Harry Winks and Dele Alli have not linked up with their country this week, Rose has and the two friendly games with Germany (Friday) and Brazil (Tuesday) should provide him with some more valuable minutes.

Boss Mauricio Pochettino admits the 27-year-old and fellow long-term absentee Erik Lamela (hip) need time before they can be at their best again.

Yet once the pair rediscover their old form, it will only enhance an already strong looking Spurs squad.

“Always it’s tough for the players like Danny and Lamela because when you are out for 10 months and not competing, it’s tough to compete again,” said Pochettino.

“I am happy with Danny’s performance and of course he’s not at his best, but you can see it was good.

“A little bit and a little bit, step by step, he needs to find his best form and help the team.”

Ben Davies’ excellent form over the past few months has seen many suggest Rose is free to leave, especially after his controversial newspaper interview in August.

However, before his injury, the England international was regarded as one of the best left-backs in the world.

What has happened in the past now needs to stay in the past and with Spurs looking to compete on at least two fronts, an in-form Rose will only benefit Pochettino and Tottenham in their goal to win silverware this season.
