Spurs were awarded two penalties in the final 10 minutes of the game at Anfield and it was enough to help them claim a share of the spoils

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino paid tribute to referee Jon Moss and his assistants after they awarded the north Londoners a late penalty during their 2-2 Premier League draw with Liverpool.

Mo Salah put the Reds ahead in the third minute and it stayed that way until Victor Wanyama levelled in the 80th minute.

Harry Kane then saw a penalty saved, after he had been brought down by Loris Karius, before Salah made it 2-1 to Liverpool in the final exchanges.

There was still time for more drama as Virgil van Dijk was penalised for fouling Erik Lamela in the area and this time Kane made no mistake from the spot to secure a point for the visitors.

“I congratulated the referee, to show the character that they showed in this moment,” said Pochettino, when asked what he told the officials at the full time whistle.

“It was difficult to know if they were right at this moment and then in the dressing room I confirmed they were right in every single decision.

“Sometimes you complain about them, me no because I decided a long time ago to stop complaining about referees.

“But when they are right and show character, I think it is important to recognise and congratulate them because they have a difficult job.”

Although the referee decisions dominated most of the post-match talk, Kane’s penalty also saw him reach a milestone.

The England international struck his 100th Premier League goal at Anfield and Pochettino hailed his character having missed a spot-kick just minutes earlier.

He added: “Harry’s one of the best strikers. He can miss a penalty or a chance but he has the personality.”

The draw keeps Tottenham fifth in the table, but only one point behind fourth-placed Chelsea and two off Liverpool in third.
