The Spurs boss hailed the belief and togetherness of his group after a landmark victory at Manchester United

Mauricio Pochettino heaped praise on Tottenham Hotspur after they produced a superb second-half performance at Old Trafford to blow away Manchester United on Bank Holiday Monday.

The Premier League fixture was goalless at the break, but Spurs struck twice in quick succession following the restart to take control.

First Harry Kane guided a header into the corner in the 50th minute before Lucas Moura drilled home a second just two minutes later.

Spurs’ Brazilian had the final say on proceedings too with a well taken goal six minutes from time to wrap up an excellent 3-0 away victory.

“I’m very happy,” Pochettino said. “Our second half performance was much better because first half, Man United were better than us.

“They didn’t create too many clear chances, but our belief and the trust in the way we play and the togetherness was good and in the end, the result was fair.”

United should have taken the lead in the 16th minute when Danny Rose’s back pass was too short and Romelu Lukaku rounded Hugo Lloris, but he could only fire wide from a tight angle.

Spurs did respond and Dele Alli failed to make the most of a good situation in the 25th minute when Chris Smalling slide in to thwart a dangerous away attack.

Jose Mourinho’s men went on to waste more chances as Fred curled wide before Paul Pogba tested fellow France international Lloris with a long-range effort.

The Old Trafford clash was goalless at the break, but the visitors made a bright start after the restart and took the lead in the 50th minute when Kieran Trippier’s corner was headed in by Kane from 12-yards.

It was 2-0 soon after when Christian Eriksen cut back for Moura and he fired past David De Gea impressively.

Pochettino’s team were in complete control now, but the hosts did threaten on the hour mark when Alexis Sanchez was set up for a volley, yet he could only blaze over.

An underhit back pass, this time by United, set up Alli for an opportunity minutes later, but De Gea made himself big and save well.

Yet Tottenham had the last laugh as Moura put on the afterburners in the 84th minute to get past Smalling and fire home a third to cap a brilliant day for the north Londoners in Manchester.
