Meeting in Hackney to discuss bedroom tax and welfare cuts
A discussion on the bedroom tax and how to stop welfare cuts takes place this Wednesday in Lower Clapton.
Speakers at the meeting will include April Ashley from Unison NEC, Paul Kershaw the Chair of Unite Housing Workers Branch, Imelda Messenger from Hackney Benefits Justice Campaign, Nat Mathew from Hackney Community Law Centre and Matthew Waterfall Hackney from Branch Secretary of Unison.
They will be answering questions and asking what the future will hold for people in Hackney if the Labour-controlled council implements the government’s bedroom tax.
A spokesman said: “The Bedroom Tax will do nothing for the housing crisis in Hackney or London, what it will do is push out and isolate many tenants who have lived in their houses for many years, if they do not want to occur big debts.
“If they stay they will be riddled with further debt, despair and poverty with an increase in the use of food banks.”
