Have-a-go heroes managed to save a driver trapped in her 4WD Mercedes that had flipped onto its side.
Witnesses to the accident in Downs Park Road yesterday evening, described how the car was approaching a traffic jam too fast, and at to avoid hitting the bottle-neck swerved and hit a parked car, causing it to tip over.
A cyclist who had been on his way home told the Gazette how onlookers immediately stepped in to help.
“As passers-by gathered around the car, two men were speaking with the lady inside who was unbuckling her seat belt and trying to stand upright with her feet pressed against the drivers side window,” he said. “They tried to open the front passenger door, however it wouldn’t open. They then forced open the rear passenger door and directed the woman to step between the seat, before lifting her out of the vehicle.”
Police officers and the London Fire Brigade arrived soon after. The woman escaped with “minor injuries”.
