A Midnight Vintage Walk transported Hackney’s streets back to the 1940s at the weekend, raising 20,000 for hospices.

About 150 men and women dressed in fascinators, feather boas and wartime and vintage clothing left the Kingsland Shopping Centre in Kingsland Road at midnight on Saturday, before walking through Hackney, Shoreditch, Old Street and The City.

Ranall Leckie, events fundraiser at St Joseph’s Hospice, said: “Everyone who took part put a huge amount of effort into their outfits – and that was before they even started walking.

“This was the first ever midnight walk to take place in Hackney and we are delighted with how well it went.

Organised by Richard House Children’s Hospice in Beckton, and St Joseph’s Hospice in Mare Street, proceeds will be split between the two which have close links. To donate go to www.stjh.org.uk
